| To the south of Il nido is the stunning city of Orvieto - 35 minute drive away. With so many superb cities in Italy one runs out of superlatives but Orvieto is certainly in the top rank. Beyond Orvieto is Lake Corbara and Todi or if one turns west Bolsena and its lake. | |
| To the north of Il nido is Citta della Pieve, famous for its Perugino fresco and painting. Beyond Citta della Pieve is Chiusi where the old town contains an Etruscan museum and Roman tower. Even further north and west is the garden of La Foce and the classic Tuscan town of Pienza. Alternatively one can swing east to Lake Trasimeno and take the ferry to the islands. | |
| From Il nido one wanders through a series of hill town into the Tiber valley. There one finds some of the most famous Umbrian towns such as Assisi (St Francis), Montefalco, Spello, Deruta and Spoleto. | |
| Perugino was one of Umbria's most famous artists but one that stayed mostly at home. One can take the Perugino trail from Citta della Pieve through small towns to the National gallery collection in Perugia. | |
| For those interested in gardens there is a varied range within an hour's drive of Il nido. One of the most famous is La Foce - a neo classical Italian garden planned in the 1930s. Close to home is La Scarzuola - a fantasy of stage sets and garden. To the south in Lazio are the Villa Lante and Bomazo. | |
| With so many beautiful hill towns it is easy to become blasé but the local villages provide great interest and easy driving. | |
| Perugia is the capital of the region of Umbria and its largest city. It has been a nightmare for visitors but now sat nav can take you to the sports stadium from where you take the minimetro to the heart of the old city. |

Spending a day in Rome or Florence is easily done from Il Nido. The train from Fabro takes 100 minutes to Rome. The train to Florence takes 2 hours and trains to each pass Fabro every two hours during the day.
Siena can be visited from Il Nido - the train to Siena leaves Chiusi regularly during the day and passes through a scenic route to get there.
