Perugino is one of Umbria's most famous painters and one who preferred staying at home rather than flutter around the bright lights of Rome or Florence.
Most of his Umbrian paintings are in Perugia but there are many of his works in the small towns of Umbria.

This map shows the location of the Perugino paintings near Il nido. The "Cerqueto" on the map is another Cerqueto - not the tiny borgo near us. We are south - east of Citta della Pieve towards Marsciano.
Citta della Pieve (only 35 minutes from Castel di Fiori) has many of his paintings including the well known fresco of The Adoration of the Magi in the Oratorio of S. Maria dei Bianchi.

Perugino's dog gets a prominent place in the painting.

Here is the descendant of Perugino's dog at Podere valle Pulcini.
From Citta della Pieve one can drive to Panicale (fresco of St Sebastian).

The hill top town of Panicale.

The Perugino fresco of St Sebastian.
Fontignano is the next town on the Perugino trail. From Fontignano one contiues on to Perugia where there are many Perugino painting in the National Gallery and elsewhere.
