How to get to Il Nido from within Italy

Return to home page

Il Nido faces the hamlet of Castel di Fiori with its medieval watchtower. Castel di Fiori attracts visitors in summer but is almost deserted in the winter months. As the sketch shows it is an unspoiled rural area with ancient oak forests, olive groves, vineyards and open fields where wild flowers bloom profusely in spring and summer.

Il Nido is by no means completely cut off from civilisation A twenty minute drive brings you to the railway station at Fabro, on the main line between Rome and Florence. Fabro also provides access to the A1 motorway.

Now to the more practical

This map shows Umbria. Umbria is in the heart of central Italy - the part between Florence and Rome. Il Nido is in the olive grove of Podere valle Pulcini at Castel di Fiori with Perugia 45 minutes to the North-East and Orvieto 45 minutes to the South West.

This is a detailed map that shows Castel di Fiori in relation to Fabro. Fabro Scalo is to the East of the A1 exit.

To get to Il Nido from the A1 motorway:-

Leave the motorway at the Fabro exit. Turn left for the road to Fabro Scalo.

At the roundabout cross over and take the exit for Montegabbione.

After about half a kilometre, the road forks, Take the right-hand fork marked to Parrano.

The road follows the valley of the Chiano river for about 3 km. Cross over a bridge and almost immediately turn left to Castel di Fiori.

The road is part dirt and part tarmac. Follow it for about 3 km, climbing all the time then pass through the tiny hamlet of Cerqueto. Bear left.

After another 2 km of dirt road, you will see two stone barns, one each side of the road. Continue for another 300 metres and then turn right up a rough track.

Follow the track up the hill for about 300 metres. Enter the wooden gates marked Podere valle Pulcini, and you will find the farmhouse - and (at long last) Il Nido.

Il Nido in relation to Castel di Fiori

Here is Castel di Fiori. The road is among the olives and Cyprus trees. To the right the road continues for a little over one kilometre and joins the road from that runs between Montegabbione and Montegiove.

To the left the road descends for about 4 to 5 km to join the road that runs between Fabro and Parrano.

The track shown on the bottom of the sketch leads to Podere valle Pulcini and Il Nido.

You are here. Welcome to Podere valle Pulcini.
